Enfield’s Area Action Plans

Enfield’s Strategic Growth Areas Report
A series of interrelated consultation exercises and publications have looked at what Enfield’s spatial development priorities should be and the potential impact of these in different areas of the borough. The Strategic Growth Areas Report pulls together and summarises our work so far and seeks your views on our preferred way forward. The report has been published for consultation until Friday 8th May 2009. We want to ensure we have a clear and shared understanding of Enfield’s priorities for the future and the steps necessary to help achieve them.

Last year we asked your views on the Council’s preferred options for the Core Strategy and the emerging Area Action Plans. As part of this we considered a number of strategic options for the future development of the borough. Our preferred approach is that planning for growth and regeneration in the borough should be focussed in four specific areas:

• Meridian Water within Central Leeside
• Ponders End within North East Enfield
• the area around the Enfield Town Rail station
• New Southgate within the North Circular Road

These areas are considered to be priorities for the borough due to the opportunities they offer for change to improve the quality of life for Enfield’s residents. There have been strong support for these priorities and work is underway on the preparation of more detailed masterplans for these areas.

Consultation on the Council’s Strategic Growth Areas report commenced on Friday 27th March 2009 and will run for a six week period until Friday 8th May 2009.
Four Area Action Plans are being taken forward as part of the Council’s Local Development Framework. They will follow on from, and build on, the Council’s Core Strategy, which covers strategic planning issues for the whole borough. Area Action Plans are more focused plans for specific areas of the borough in order to facilitate major change or protect areas that are sensitive to change.
The following key stages are required for the preparation of all the Area Action Plans:

1. Evidence gathering- Sustainability Appraisal (SA) Scoping
2. Report and Baseline Report
3. Preparation of Issues & Options
4. Preparation of Preferred Options
5. Preparation of Area Action Plan for submission to Secretary of State
6. Examination in Public
7. Adoption
