Stop Junk Mail

Did you know that up to 400 pieces of junk mail is delivered to your home every year?

Here’s how to receive the mail you really want and cut waste. Just take one or more of these easy steps to reduce unwanted mail:

1 Reduce personally-addressed mail

ACTION: Register with the Mailing Preference Service to have your name and address removed from up to 95% of mailing lists. There is not charge for this; simply register online at www.mpsonline.org.uk or ring 08457 034599 to request an application form.

2 Cut ‘unaddressed’ mail

Unaddressed mail means leaflets or letters without a postal address (NB Royal Mail must by law deliver any mail addressed ‘To the Occupier’).

ACTION: Royal Mail deliver about 25% of unaddressed mail through their Door to Door service. To opt out of these deliveries, write requesting an opt-out form to:

Freepost RRBT-ZBXB-TTTS
Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Outs
Kingsmead House
Oxpens Road
Oxford OX1 1RX

Or e-mail: optout@royalmail.com

ACTION: Put a ‘No leaflets’ sticker on your letterbox. You can download artwork for one using this link..

3 Avoid new mailing lists

ACTION: When completing forms, always tick the box or write to the company requesting no further correspondence. Also, tick the box on the Council’s annual electoral registration form to opt out of the edited version of the electoral register. (Companies can buy this version for marketing purposes.)

4 Leave mailing lists

ACTION: Write to companies and organisations you have dealt with in the past to ask to be removed from their database.

ACTION: Return unwanted mail to the sender. Download these ‘Return to Sender’ labels for speed..
