Improved Refuse - Recycling and Street Cleansing Services
On the 8th October 2008 a Council decision was made to make the following service improvements over the next 18 months. The service improvements will allow residents to store waste more easily, recycle more and improve the standards of street cleansing in the borough.
For the first time residents in houses will be able to recycle food waste. A property survey is being carried out across the whole borough and further details will follow once the survey is complete. The new services will be phased in from 2009 – 2011.
All houses - detached, semi detached and terraced* (where space allows) will be provided with three wheeled bins;
1. Refuse
2. Recycling (paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles)
3. Garden and food (grass, plants, flowers leaves, meat, fish, fruit vegetables, dairy, eggs, pasta, bread, rice, noodles)
* following a property survey terraced properties without sufficient storage for 3 wheeled bins will be offered an alternative system.
All blocks of flats
1. Refuse – remains the same
2. Recycling - where there are no communal recycling bins for (paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, cans, plastic bottles) these will be provided.
All flats above shops
1. Refuse – remains the same
2. Recycling – a new sack collection system will be provided.
