Street Cleansing - to Include Litter Removal

A programme of mechanical sweeping, manual sweeping, graffiti removal, litter and dog bin provision, street washing, weed control and fly tip removal that comprises the borough street cleansing service.

The service provides for a minimum weekly cleanse of all public roads with town centres and other high usage areas cleansed on a continuous beatsweep cycle throughout the day. A combination of mechanical and manual sweeping is undertaken to best suit the demands of each location. The service operates 24 hours between Monday and Friday with morning and afternoon restricted shifts at weekends and bank holidays.

Street washing and gum removal cleanses are undertaken on a rolling programme across the borough. Weed spraying is undertaken on all public roads and paths four times each year to keep the areas free from weeds.

All litter bins and dog waste bins are emptied at least weekly with many town centre litter bins emptied daily.

Flytips are removed within 4 working hours from report and a proactive programme of flytip removal is in place. Graffiti on Council property is removed within 7 days as standard with offensive graffiti removed within 24 hours of report.

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
4 working hour response time on flytips, 24 hours for offensive graffiti, 7 days for other graffiti and between 24 hours and 7 days for litter complaints depending on the location and extent of problem. Officers will check and instruct as necessary.
