Licensing - tracking betting

The Licensing Team receives and administers applications, under Schedule 3 of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, for tracks wishing to provide track-side betting.

A track betting licence allows bookmaking to take place on a licensed dog track or on a track at which betting takes place more than 7 times a year and which falls within the provisions of the Act. Such places could include any premises on which races, of any description, athletic sports or other sporting events take place.

Premises wishing to track betting must apply for, and be granted, a licence.

There is a prescribed application form to be completed, and the application fee is £46.

Licences are granted seven years, when application for renewal must be made if the premises wishes to continue providing track betting.

Complaints about premises can be made by eForm,, telephone, e-mail, post or in person at the Civic Offices. All complaints are dealt with in accordance with the Councils Complaint Procedure.

Eligibility
An application for a track betting licence can be made by: (a) the occupier of an existing track; or (b) any person who proposes to become the occupier of a track which is proposed to be constructed.

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
Licences are determined within 15 days where no objections are received or within I month where objections are received and application is heard by the Licensing Sub-Committee.
