Certificate of Proficiency as Keeper of a Public Weighbridge
|
|
Operators of public weighing equipment must hold a certificate of competence from a Chief Trading Standards Officer. Applicants will be expected to show that they can operate the weighbridge safely and correctly and complete all necessary paperwork satisfactorily.
In order to operate a public weighbridge (for which a charge is made) the person operating the machine has to hold a certificate of competence from a chief inspector of Weights & Measures, applicable to the type of machine in question.
In order to obtain such a certificate the applicant should contact the Trading Standards Service either by telephone, letter, e-mail or fax. They will need to provide some personal information (name & address) and have access to the appropriate weighbridge for which they require a certificate. An appointment will be made for an examiner to attend the weighbridge site and test the proficiency of the applicant. There is no fee foe the provision of the certificate
Eligibility
Applicants will need to be familiar with weighing practices and weighbridge operation and have basic arithmetic skills.
