Life and Landscape in line and colour by Paul Rocca - Gallery
Wed 4 Feb – Sun 1 Mar
Paul is very inspired by the landscape and the effects of the weather on it. Recently he has become less involved in the texture and process of his painting and more on the use of colour and form to express the landscape. When finished, his paintings are not so much a reflection of what he sees but have become objects in their own right. He explores line, pattern, rhythm and form. This exhibition of work will follow his journey into and comparison of colour, line, patterns and form and how they have all influenced him.

Filzy by Christine Carty – Rainton Room
Wed 4 Feb – Sun 1 Mar

Felt is one of the oldest known textiles dating back to between 600BC and 200BC. It has developed as a much unrecognised and under rated craft form in contemporary art fields. Artist Christine Carty series FILZY MODERN CREATIVE FELT changes these preconceptions.

Chris uses pure wool which is carded ( combed) ,pressed and manipulated using water into a hard wearing, strong and enticing textile. FILZY’s wow factor and success is that its versatility, aesthetic appearance, warmth and softness makes you want to touch, stare and marvel at it. With different coloured wool fibres Chris ‘draws’, ‘paints’ and manipulates the felt into a chosen visual interpretation of images, shapes and textures. The modern minimalist content of colour, line and shape create a very original contemporary composition. They range from vibrant clashing colours and textures to complimentary soft shapes and shades to meet a variety of modern creative tastes.

FILZY canvases are dramatic three dimensional textiles, full of texture, colour and inspired design. When an audience see Chris’s work, they are compelled to touch it. And the brilliance of FILZY canvases are, that they are easy to hang just as you would conventional canvas pieces.

FILZY felted cane vessels are a contrast of rigid and soft pliability with the dual purpose of a container and a unique centrepiece to any interior. It is an attractive modern interpretation of basketry complimented with the softness of felt thus these bowls, vases, and plates interweaves a hard exterior with a soft interior or vice versa.

FILZY modern creative felt appeal is that it is part of your lifestyle for the home and or for the office. FILZY is for those who want an original modern piece of art that challenges the convention of canvas art and interior decoration yet is pleasing, engaging and comfortable to live and work with.
