Animals - inspection

Enforcement of all animal health and welfare legislation designed to protect both domesticated and wild animals.

Enfield Council is responsible for licensing and inspecting over 30 premises in the borough from riding establishments, pet shops, boarding kennels, dog breeders and keepers of dangerous wild animals. This is to ensure compliance with animal welfare and health and safety legislation is not contravened.

Officers within the Environmental Protection and Safety Team will provide advice to licence holders, members of the public, new applicants wishing to apply for a licence, inspect licensed premises to check compliance with relevant legislation and to investigate complaints concerning any breaches into licensing conditions.

We undertake to respond to all enquiries in an efficient and effective manner. It is important that customers receive the best possible service based upon the resources available and to treat every service request in confidence unless otherwise agreed with the customer and we will explain the relevant course of action that is available for dealing with your enquiry.

We aim to respond to service requests within 24 hours of receipt of enquiry, to carry out an initial site visit / inspection within 10 days all depending on the severity of the complaint and to provide a written or telephone response to the customer concerning their enquiry. We also aim to inspect all licensed premises at least once a year and to carry out routine spot checks through out the year to check compliance concerning licensing conditions, where appropriate we will seek the expert advice from an independent Veterinary Surgeon.

Should any of the licensed premises contravene or breach their licensing conditions, officers from Environmental Protection and Safety Team will take formal action against offenders in accordance with the Council’s Enforcement Policy.
