Asylum seekers - advice and support

Provision of temporary accommodation, subsistence and other advice and support for asylum seekers i.e. those waiting decision on their applications by the government.
Since 2000 the service has been provided by the National Asylum Support service for all new arrivals.
With the new dispersal policy, asylum seekers supported by LBE are being gradually dispersed to other areas outside London and the South-East. The direct service to asylum seekers (families with children and single adults) is coming to an end from local authorities.
The residual service will aim to provide advice guidance and sign posting to refugees and asylum seekers residing in the borough.
The service to unaccompanied minors is provided by the leaving care team.

The asylum service was set up to deal with the emergency need of accommodation and support to asylum seekers. This service will no longer exist.
Advice and guidance can be obtained by phone and/or preferably by in person with all relevant domentations.
We will help consider options for support, help access accommodation if eligible and advise on NASS support, welfare benefits, health and education
