Parks Arboricultural Team

Parks & Open Spaces trees and woodland management

Advice and information on trees, woodland and tree-related issues to local organisations and the public. Where woodland and parkland trees are on council owned land the local authority has a responsibility to maintain them in a way, which is beneficial to the local environment and ensures public safety.

Woodlands

The main responsibilities of the Parks Arboricultural Team are:
• Manage all tree stock within the Council’s allotments, cemeteries, parks and open spaces.
• Provide expert advice on trees, woodland and tree-related issues to the Council and the public.
• Work closely with the Parks Operations Team regarding the maintenance and management of the parks tree stock.
• Advise Planning Officers on development control issues and assist with the process of tree preservation orders and applications to work on trees in conservation areas.

Currently the team are drafting a Parks Tree Strategy for the Council’s 123 parks and open spaces. The aim of the strategy is to ensure that our parks tree stock will be managed, maintained and enhanced over the coming years for the benefit of both current and future generations. A large part of this strategy involves the task of completing a comprehensive tree condition survey in order to determine actions for improvement and enhancement. Work on this tree survey is well underway.
