School appeals service

A parent may appeal for a place at any community school to which they apply and for which they have been refused a place. The School Appeals Service administers the appeal process.

For voluntary aided schools in the London Borough of Enfield, the responsibility for appeal arrangements rests with the school, and you must contact them directly for details.

For community schools, the responsibility for appeals rests with Enfield Council Children Services Authority. If you want to appeal for a community school, please contact the Enfield Council Admissions Team for a form.

When completed, the appeal form should be returned to:

School Appeals Service,
PO Box 56,
Enfield Council,
Civic Centre,
Silver Street,
EN1 3XQ

For secondary transfer appeals, cutoff dates are detailed in the booklets that are available from Enfield School Admissions Service (ESAS). For any other type of school appeal please complete the form and return it as soon as possible.

We will acknowledge your appeal form within 5 working days and let you know what will happen next.

Appeals are heard by an independent panel and a decision made by an appeal panel is binding on the local authority.

Secondary Transfer Appeals

When your child is transferring from Primary to Secondary school, acceptance of a place at a school does not affect your right to appeal for a place at another school. In other words, if you accept one of your preferred schools you may still appeal for other schools.

We would advise you to accept a place offered for your child even if you are planning to appeal for another school, in case your appeal is unsuccessful. This is because secondary transfer appeals are normally heard during the second half of the summer term and by this time, there may be very few alternative schools which still have vacancies.

Please remember that Enfield Council’s Education, Childrens Services and Leisure Department is always willing to discuss vacancies at alternative schools with you at any stage in the process.
