Licence - hairdresser

Hairdressers and barbers are required to be registered with the local authority. Following an application an Officer will visit premises to check they meet health and safety guidelines and conform with local Byelaws. Premises will be inspected on a regular basis once registered.

Enfield Council is responsible for enforcing Special Treatment Licensing, namely The London Local Authorities Act 1991 (amended 2000) in over 120 premises in the Borough.

Under the provisions of the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1967, no person may carry on the business of a hairdresser or barber on any premises in the London Borough of Enfield unless he/she is registered by the Council in respect of those premises under Section 21 of the above Act. Failure to register could result, on conviction, in a fine not exceeding £200 and a daily fine not exceeding £5.

An application for a registration can be made by contacting the Environmental Protection & Safety Team, once the application has been completed, an Officer from the Environmental Protection & Safety Team will visit to assess the cleanliness of the premises on which a hairdresser or barbers business is carried on and of the instruments, towels, materials and equipment used.

Once the premises is registered a copy of the registration certificate and of the byelaws should be prominently displayed in their premises.
