Land and property - derelict properties - public safety

The Public Health Team ensure that empty properties are kept secure and free from rubbish using the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.

If you know of any vacant or unsecured houses where owners fail to bring them back into occupation, please contact us with the details or alternatively fill in the e-form on the Council’s website.

The Council have the ability to take action to secure buildings which are not secure against unauthorised entry. This means they notify the owner that they will be taking action to make the building secure within a specified timescale if the owner does not complete the works within that time.
