Consumer Credit – Licensing enquiries

Any business which provides credit or hires goods to consumers under regulated credit or hire agreements needs to obtain a consumer credit licence. Such licences are obtainable from the Office of Fair Trading.

Any business needing a consumer credit licence must make an application to the Office of Fair Trading. Application forms can be downloaded from the OFT website . The fees for licences, time taken to process applications etc can be found on the website. Once an application has been received the OFT will make enquiries about the fitness of the applicant to hold a licence. If there are no valid objections the licence will be issued.
