Licences - tattooists, piercing and electrolysis

The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 requires that all persons that carry out tattooing, ear piercing and electrolysis be registered with the local authority. Officers will visit the premises to ensure they comply with the requirements of both the Act and any local Bylaws.

Enfield Council is responsible for enforcing Special Treatment Licensing, namely The London Local Authorities Act 1991 (amended 2000) in over 120 premises in the Borough.

Tattooists, Ear Piercing & Electrolysis

All premises that offer Tattooing, Ear Piercing & Electrolysis require a licence from this authority. You can contact the Environmental Protection & Safety Team who will arrange for an application to be sent out to you.

During the process of the application an Officer from Environmental Protection & Safety Team will visit the premises to carry out a licence inspection.

The inspection will cover the following categories: -
• Condition of the premises.
• Best practice to reduce the risk of cross infection to clients.
• Correct procedures for disposing of waste.
• Maintenance and use of equipment in the premises.
• Handling of needles on the premises.
• The use of detergent’s and disinfectants on the premises.
• Fire Safety & First Aid facilities.
