Licences - Sunday trading notification | |
|
Restrictions on opening times on Sundays are confined to large shops (defined as those having an internal sales area of over 280m2). These shops must be registered with the council for trading on a Sunday, and specify the six hours of trading on a Sunday which must be between the hours of 10.00 to 18.00. Smaller shops may trade freely on a Sunday. The service enforces The Sunday Trading Act 1994, which restricts the opening of premises for trade for more than six continuous hours on a Sunday and no trading on Easter Sunday where the premises have an internal sales area greater than 280square meters. There are many exceptions to this, which allow shops to open on Easter Sunday (e.g. petrol stations, registered pharmacies and where the trading area is less than 280 square metres).
