Play Facilities – Playgrounds in Parks

The local authority is responsible for managing play facilities such as playgrounds, outdoor and indoor play areas catering for age groups ranging from four years to twelve years.

Play Provisions
Play is essential for children’s well being and healthy development. As they grow, the ability to experiment and explore their environment freely is central to their development. The Parks and Open Spaces Service recognises the importance of facilitating safe, accessible and interesting play opportunities across the Borough catering for all ages.

Town Park Playground

Enfield has some 40 playgrounds available for use across the Borough.

Playground Safety
The Parks and Open Spaces Service is responsible for the safety of all playground equipment. The parks maintenance staff visually inspect and clean all playgrounds on a daily basis. Risk assessments are out on a bi-monthly basis to ensure the play equipment and safety surfaces meet the highest possible safety standards (BS-EN 1176/77.)

It is important that children have access so safe play environments. The Safe Neighbourhood Parks Unit patrol the park playgrounds on a regular basis to ensure that the equipment is not being misused and also to ensure that dogs are not within the playground area.

Playground Maintenance
The Parks and Open Spaces Service is responsible for the maintenance of all the play equipment. An external company are engaged to undertake the repairs.

Playground Improvement Programme
The Council is committed to creating and improving playgrounds within the Borough as part of the ongoing capital improvement programme. Since 2005 the Parks Service have spent £1.2M on playground improvements. Over the next 3 years the Council will commit a further £2.6M to further enhance play facilities across the Borough.

Splash Pads

Town Park Spash Pad

Enfield has two interactive aquatic play areas for young children to enjoy. They can be found in:

Durants Park – Hertford Road, Enfield, EN3 7ED map.

Town Park – Cecil Road, Enfield, EN1 map.

These facilities are turned on during the summer months; weather permitting, between 9am and 7pm.
