Housing - support to tenants

The aim of the service is to provide support to vulnerable people to help to prevent homelessness and for them to live as independently as possible.

The Supporting People Team funds a number of support services in Enfield. The support services are designed to help vulnerable people live as independently as possible in their own homes so that their quality of life is improved. A Support worker can visit tenants in their own home and may be able to help you with some or all of the following:

Setting up and running your home well e.g. dealing with issues such as turning on gas, electricity and water.
Finding furniture.
Sorting out rent and bills.
Managing money and claiming benefits.
Getting insurance and ensuring security.
Meeting your obligations as a tenant.
Making the most of your neighbourhood eg finding shops and services.
Looking for jobs.
Training or courses.
Making use of leisure time.
Getting in touch with extra help where this is needed eg talking about problems.
Getting expert advice on things like debt, mental health, drugs or alcohol, contacting social services or other organisations.

The Support Worker can talk through any problems with you. They will agree a 'support plan' with you that tells you what to expect and how often they'll visit.
Your council aims to help you get on your feet and live as independently as possible. After a time you may find that you do not need this type of support or that your needs for support lesson. However, should your needs change you are able to contact your council to request further help through Supporting People schemes.

Eligibility
People can access Supporting People services for free if they are receiving Housing Benefits. If you do not receive Housing Benefit, you can still access Supporting People services, but you may have to pay a charge (the amount will depend on which support service you need to access). You can apply for a “Fairer Charging Assessment” from the Council to determine how much you will have to pay.

Your support needs will need to be “assessed” by a support worker to see what help you need at home.
