Housing Information and advice for private tenants and landlords

The Housing Advice Team provides a service of advice and assistance on housing and related matters to private tenants. We offer help on tenancy rights, defending court proceedings, rent arrears, housing benefit problems that might cause someone to loose their home, deposits and housing options
The Housing Advice Team offers a telephone advice service for private landlords on general principles and good practice in letting and managing tenancies.

Services for Private Tenants
The Housing Advice Team has a small team of specialist Housing Advisers who provide comprehensive information, advice and casework service to private tenants. An important priority for the team is casework to prevent homelessness and resolve tenancy disputes. The Housing Adviser will need to see relevant documents relating to the tenancy, including the tenancy agreement, rent book, notices to leave, letters and correspondence if they are available. Private tenants are advised to contact the Housing Advice Team by telephone or in writing. Appointments are available for complex enquiries that cannot be handled by phone or where a client has special needs such as a disability or difficulty communicating by phone. Customers who have been illegally evicted from their homes and those who have received Court papers or a Court Order may be seen without an appointment.
