Museums and galleries - loans donations and bequests

Items exhibited in local museums and galleries may be provided by private individuals either on loan (usually for the duration of an exhibition), as a donation or as a bequest upon the death of the owner. The local authority makes arrangements to receive the items, ensure their safety while on display and (where on loan) their return to the owner.

Enfield Museum Service aims to collect, record, preserve and interpret material culture to reflect the diverse nature of the borough and its communities.
We will make this material available in a variety of formats and in an educational, entertaining and inclusive manner.
There is one museum in the borough which is supported and run by the LBE, at Forty Hall, a Grade I listed Jacobean House. It has local history displays about the London Borough of Enfield.

The museum is open Weds- Sun 11am-4pm.
Disabled access is only available to the ground floor.
The museum service also organises exhibitions around the Borough including at local libraries and at the Civic Centre.
We are currently planning a new museum for the borough as part of the new development in Enfield Town Centre. This will consist of a new permanent and temporary exhibition space in conjunction with the local history library.
We like to work on projects with the local community and welcome your comments and suggestions.
We have a policy of collecting things made in, bought in, used in the LBE. We are particularly keen to acquire items that reflect the Borough’s past and current industrial history and also items from other cultures and communities who now live in the area.
