Pre-Application Advice

If you are at all unsure about the planning process, or you are unsure whether your proposals are likely to be acceptable, or indeed whether they need planning permission at all, you are encouraged to obtain pre-application advice.

A Planning Advice Officer is available at Environment Direct, in the Civic Centre, between 10.00am and 4.00pm on weekdays - for the general public no appointment is required but professional agents are requested to telephone for an appointment

By appointment only, a Planning Advice Officer may also be seen between 4.00 and 7.00pm on Thursday evenings. Telephone 020 8379 3505 for an appointment.

If the development is large scale or more complex, it will be the subject of the Council’s new pre-application charging scheme. Please follow the link below for details.

Charges for Pre-Application Advice

The charging scheme will not apply to discussions in connection with very small business premises, and related advertisement proposals or very minor schemes or householder schemes, certificates of lawfulness, enforcement or advice to any local resident affected by a development. Such advice at this time will continue to be provided free of charge.

For schemes that are exempt payment of a fee please submit your request to:

The Development Control Manager
London Borough of Enfield
PO Box 53
Civic Centre
Silver Street
Enfield
EN1 3XE

enclosing a location plan, layout drawings, and any other material necessary to explain the proposal. A case officer will be assigned to reply and they will discuss the proposal with you if necessary.

You may want to employ an agent (usually a town planner, a surveyor or an architect) to make the application on their behalf, particularly if the development is complicated, controversial or requires detailed drawings.

Some agents advertise in the local papers and telephone directories and the professional institutions often hold lists of practices by region. See the Useful Websites page.
