Under Fives Home School Liaison ServiceSupport for children who do not have English as their first language. This may be provided by bi-lingual classroom assistants and resources or interpreting and translation in nursery and primary schools. The Under Fives Home School Liaison Service is a team of a Co-ordinator, 5 teachers and 7 Bilingual Home School Liaison Officers. The team speak 11 languages. The Service aims to support and enhance the quality of pre-school educational opportunities for children through the development of a close partnership between pupils, parents, communities and schools. The Service is currently working in 21 schools. It provides a pre-school programme for children in the year before they start school. The Home School Liaison Team
The Service also works with some families who are not within the area of the 21 schools through referrals from health visitors and other professionals. The Service accepts referrals by telephone from professionals and also directly from parents and is available to discuss questions about the appropriateness of the referral. Eligibility
