Enfield School Crossing Patrol Service
The provision and maintenance of School Crossing Patrols at various locations outside or adjacent to Enfield school during certain hours.
Responsibility for School Crossing Patrols (SCPs) was handed over by the Metropolitan Police to London Local Authorities from 1st April 2000.
There are currently 40 sites across the Borough of Enfield covering many junior and some senior schools. The Service is constantly seeking to fill a small number of vacancies at locations that occur at fairly frequent intervals.
The hours vary slightly from site to site and cover the beginning and the end of the school day. A typical site would be covered from around 8:15 am until 9:15 am and again from 3 pm until 4 pm.
School Crossing Patrols make a major contribution to road safety for young people on the school journey. Their role is to assist pupils and adults to cross the road on their way to and from school. From 30th January 2001, (Section 270, Transport Act 2000), School Crossing Patrols were empowered to assist any pedestrian who needs help across the road and not just schoolchildren. In order to stop traffic and help people cross the road, they must wear an approved coat and hat and carry the official sign. All uniform and safety equipment is supplied.
