Dealing with pavement theft, ensuring there is no risk to public safety resulting from the theft and handling of reports regarding theft of paving stones. Theft of paving stones is a serious crime. Not only are the thieves creating a safety hazard for pedestrians, they are also stealing the district's heritage. Thefts of this nature have a significant impact on Council resources, including the costs to make the area safe and reinstate the paving slabs. Please report any suspicious actions to the Local Authority on the contact details above or the Police. Calls will be treated in the strictest confidence. Do not make any direct approach to anyone suspected of stealing paving stones. All reports of missing stones are recorded and assessed by Highways Services. Where the assessment indicates a matter of emergency or danger, then prompt remedial action is taken. All remaining work is then assessed on a priority basis, and carried out in order of urgency. When a customer informs Highway Services of a missing paving stone, a Highway Inspector endeavours to inspect within 24 hours. A works order is raised and given priority 1 of 24 hours or priority 2 of 28 days according to the severity of the damage. Where possible, the Council may prosecute the offenders and recover all costs. Eligibility
