Roads - bridge strengthening

The structural assessment to national codes of bridges on the public highway. The design and implementation of strengthening schemes to bring under-strength bridges up to the national standard. The service covers all bridges in the borough except those on the M25 and the TfL maintained structures associated with the A10 and A406.

The structural assessment of bridges on the public highway is provided to check that they are suitable for traffic in accordance with the requirements of the Highway Agency. If a bridge does meet the current requirements it may have a load or other restriction imposed. Funding is then sought to strengthen the bridge.

The design and implementation of strengthening schemes to bring under-strength bridges up to the national standard is funded by Transport for London and is subject to a London wide prioritisation system for allocation of funding from a limited budget.
