Road Markings and Signage - Yellow Lines

Traffic Engineering

Provision of yellow lines waiting restrictions to, Improve safety particularly at junctions, Maintain access, particularly for Emergency Services, Improve traffic flow and efficiently manage available road space.

The Council receives a large number of requests for yellow lines waiting restrictions yearly. There are limited resources to meet the high demand for this service and consequently a priority criteria has been adopted for the provision of this service. The Council’s current policy is to consider the provision of yellow lines where parking is a contributory factor to accidents or where parking affects emergency access. In addition, the Council also has a junction protection programme aimed at providing yellow lines at junctions to remove obstructive or dangerous parking. Currently this Programme has the A105, A1010 and A110 as agreed priorities and no resources allocated to extend this programme to other areas.

The provision of yellow lines involves a legal process, which includes a statutory consultation, which can typically take five to six months to implement depending on the level of objections received during the consultation stage.
