Special Collection ServiceBulky household waste collection changes – July 2008From 1st July 2008 there will be some changes to the Council’s collection of large items from households. We are continuing to offer a free collection of most items but there will now be a maximum of 3 collections within a 12-month rolling period and a maximum of 5 items per collection. There will be a £50 charge for any extra collections and for the collection of items such as fencing, sheds and single garage doors – please see below for more details of what: We can collect for free
The service operates Monday – Saturday and collects agreed items from the front property boundary of domestic premises (or agreed location from flats). Collection takes place between 7am – 4pm Monday – Friday and between 7am –12pm on Saturday, on given date depending on area postcode. We can collect for free Wardrobes
Please note we can only collect up to 5 items per collection free and each household will be limited to 3 free collections per 12-month rolling period (i.e. 15 items in total). For any collection of 6 –10 items there will be a £50 charge. Please remember that if retailers deliver new electrical goods (fridges, freezers, cookers etc) to your house they have a duty to remove the old one. To collect these items there will be a £50 charge to residents for each collection, with a limit of up to 5 items per collection. Please note that poor presentation of items for collection may result in the service being declined. We Cannot Collect Because of the size, nature and volume of some household waste items we unfortunately cannot collect them. Instead many of them can be taken to Barrowell Green Recycling Centre (Barrowell Green, Winchmore Hill, N21 3AU) for disposal. Glazed window frames, green house or glass
Please be aware Barrowell Green Recycling Centre is for household waste only and it is an offence to dispose of trade waste there. The items below cannot be collected by us or taken to Barrowell Green for disposal so please contact the company who supplied them
To dispose of asbestos or other hazardous waste, please contact Corporation of London on 0207 332 3433. Please note that when a contractor carries out work on your house it is their responsibility to dispose of the waste. Furniture reuse collections We also collect good quality second hand furniture for reuse on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.30am – 3.30pm (am or pm time slots).
