Environmental Management System (ISO 14001;2004)
for
Street Scene and Waste Services
Street Scene and Waste Services is responsible for the collection of household waste, including kerbside collections of dry recyclables and green waste, the clearance of litter and detritus from public land and the removal of graffiti.
In providing these services in the borough of Enfield, Street Scene and Waste Services takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. As such, we have been operating an Environmental Management System since June 2007 and in 2008 aim to be accredited to ISO 14001:2004, an internationally recognised environmental quality standard.
Our Environmental Management System sets out our annual environmental targets and objectives that will allow us to control our impacts on the environment (e.g. preventing pollution) and enable us to continually improve our environmental performance. This will be achieved through the effective management of waste and energy, control of emissions, management of materials and the control and influence on suppliers.
Working to ISO 14001;2004 will allow us to check that we are meeting our legal responsibilities and that we are reducing our potential for environmental incidents (e.g. spillages). This will result in better management of waste and even savings in energy used.
Our Quality Manual contains all of our Environmental Management Systems, Work Instructions and Environmental Registers. A copy of our signed Environmental Policy can also be found on this website. These documents will ensure that consideration of the environment is included in all of our processes and working methods and will demonstrate a commitment to working towards a cleaner and greener environment.
Once accreditation is achieved, our Quality Manual, documents and environmental systems will be subject to periodic reviews by an external assessor. They will check that we are complying with the ISO 14001;2004 Standard and are keeping our records up-to-date. This will be in addition to our own internal audits and reviews.
Our customers will have confidence that Street Scene and Waste Services is working within a set of strict environmental quality standards and is committed towards reducing our environmental impact in the work that we do in Enfield.
Our main objectives and targets for 2008/09 follow the new National Indicators:
§ NI 191 - Reduce residual household waste per household to 762.05 kg
