Enfield work experience

Most students from the start of year ten take part in work experience as part of their work-related learning. Other students require work placements as part of a vocational course. Work experience allows students to learn about the world of work and experience firsthand the key skills needed in the workplace. Enfield Work Experience assists schools and students in finding work placements, carries out health and safety risk assessments for placements and offers support and advice to schools.

Enfield Work Experience works with many local schools, colleges and employers to organise work placements for students in Enfield.

Participating schools and colleges pay for Enfield Work Experience to arrange work placements and carry out health and safety risk assessments for their students. Each school has a named work experience co-ordinator as a point of contact for the students, parents and employers.

Enfield Work Experience liases with employers locally and in Central London to find work placements. Every new employer receives a visit from a member of the Enfield Work Experience team. The purpose of the visit is to explain the process of work experience, draw up a job description and carry out a health and safety risk assessment for the student. This is a statutory requirement to ensure that the student will be working in a safe environment. They also check that the employer has current Employers Liability Insurance in place. Further visits to the employers are made every few years, depending on the level of
risk, to keep the risk assessment up to date.

If the placement is in a different borough Enfield Work Experience liases with the local work experience provider to arrange for them to carry out the health and safety risk assessment.

This is a reciprocal arrangement so Enfield Work Experience also carries out health and safety risk assessments for other boroughs, where a student from outside of Enfield has found a placement within Enfield.

Schools or colleges wishing to use the services of Enfield Work Experience need to contact Karen Norris on 020 8443 4252 or email karen@enfield-workex.org.uk for further information. Likewise employers who would like to offer a placement.

Eligibility
Most schools in the borough opt in to use the services of Enfield Work Experience - if a school organises their work experience independently Enfield Work Experience is unable to help their students in finding a placement.

If an employer wishes to offer a work placement they need to have Employers Liability Insurance in place (this is because the student is classed as an employee during the placement for insurance purposes). They must also agree to Enfield Work Experience carrying out a health and safety risk assessment for the student as this is a statutory requirement for all placements.
