Planning - transport policy

The Traffic and Transportation Service Centre is part of the Environment Street Scene and Parks Services Group and is the principal source of expertise for a range of transport issues. In the transport policy area, the role is mainly in formulating policy on every relevant facet of transport dependent or related activity and responding to policy issues, liaison with all other agencies concerned with transport related matters and facilitating consultation on policy matters. The service performs a crucial role in the advocacy of local interests with transport operators and providers.

The transport policy aspect of the service is primarily to provide the policy framework, in relation to transport, to facilitate the implementation of Enfield’s corporate priorities. The service ensures that the policy framework is consistent with national government and London wide policies of the Mayor of London.

The policy work of the service contributes to ensuring that the Borough meets the statutory obligations and in ensuring that the requirements for obtaining finance grants are satisfied; in this latter aspect, the service undertakes all the due process in relation to securing the maximum possible funding and associated monitoring.

An important part of the policy work is responding to various policy initiatives which originate from Central Government and London Government; in this, the service ensures that the responses from Enfield addresses the complex balance between Enfield’s priorities and London wide and/or national needs - an example of this is the proposal for a London wide Low Emission Zone.
