Traffic EngineeringDevelopment and implementation of parking policies to effectively manage on and off street parking demands so as to meet the essential needs of residents, businesses and visitors in Enfield. The number of places that it is possible to park a vehicle on in the Borough, especially on-street kerb-side space, is finite and under increasing pressure as car ownership grows. On Street parking in approximately one-eighth of the Borough’s built-up area is currently managed by Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ). The Council has introduced a total of nine CPZs to date. The Borough’s Major centre, Enfield Town, has extensive CPZ controls. The remaining CPZs are focussed around mainline rail and tube stations in the Borough to manage commuter parking in surrounding residential areas: Arnos Grove, Bush Hill Park, Gordon Hill, Grange Park, Oakwood, Winchmore Hill and Palmers Green. The Council can vary the supply, location and charging of on-street kerb-side space to meet different parking needs, e.g. giving priority to short-stay shopper/visitor parking needs in the Borough’s Major/District centres. The Council has a yearly parking programme aimed at managing the borough’s parking supply to safeguard the safety of all road users, maintain free flow of traffic and support the legitimate needs of residents, businesses and visitors in Enfield. Requests for amendments or improvements to existing parking controls or provision of new controls are made in writing to Traffic and Transportation Services which are then added to the parking programme for consideration and subject to funding being made available.
