You and Your Dog

Dog Walking

Introduction
We want to see you and your dog enjoying our parks and open spaces, however, we also want to reduce the amount of dog fouling which spoils the enjoyment of the park by other users.

Dog Bins
There are lots of special red dog bins within parks and open spaces, which are designed for the disposal of dog excreta. Please use them. Please do not use normal litterbins.
You can pick up and dispose of dog excreta by using Pick Up Bags or by saving and using an old plastic shopping bag for this purpose, but remember to always wash your hands afterwards. These measures are helping to achieve a cleaner, safer borough.

Dangers
There are a number of diseases and illnesses that can be caused by contact with dog excreta, such as stomach upsets, however, the most hazardous is Toxocariasis. Toxocara could infect young children, if they play in an area, which has been fouled by dogs and then put their fingers in their mouths. The infection is very serious and can cause eyesight damage or even blindness. This infection is a very rare occurrence, but one which we wish to avoid in Enfield.

Animal Welfare Officer
The Council’s Animal Welfare Officer is able to offer advice and assistance on the care and control of your dog.

For further advice, please call The Animal Welfare Officer on 020 8379 1000.

Enfield Chase Dog Training Club
Enfield Chase Dog Training Club has established a series of dog training sessions to help educate dogs and their owners. Toilet Training should begin when your dog is a puppy, teaching your dog to use a specific place, such as your garden or another regular place, soon after feeding.

This will help you and your puppy to establish good habits. Enfield Chase Dog Training Club run courses to the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Schemes and gives good advice on toilet training and demonstrations on how to use pick up bags.

The Club also organise Obedience Displays, which demonstrate practical ways to train your dog!
