Enfield In Bloom

Enfield in Bloom encourages participation of the local community to improve the environment in which we live and work whether it be from sponsorship, volunteering (bulb planting, events, donations etc.) Over the last year Enfield in Bloom has encouraged the participation and joint partnership working of the’ Friends of the Parks’ groups and primary schools in seasonal bulb planting within the local parks, also to encourage the use of sustainable and drought tolerant planting.

Enfield in Bloom initiated the ‘Schools Programme’. To support this Enfield in Bloom offer fortnightly visits at the commencement of the scheme along with practical working sessions and advice. Support given can include the cultivation of specific areas, wildflower planting, fruit and vegetable growing, construction of bird and insect boxes, raised beds, recycling, composting and water conservation along with sustainable and drought tolerant planting. In the process of designing specific hard and soft landscape areas where ground is at a premium raised beds were constructed off site and transported to site by the Enfield in Bloom team. To date 8 local primary schools are participating in the programme and are encouraged to enter the Best School Grounds, or Best School with Environmental and Educational Aspect.

Every year some 30,000 bulbs are planted in the Autumn along the grass verges and grassed areas around the Borough all paid for by donations and fund raising events.

Enfield in Bloom actively encourages the Adopt a flower bed scheme which aims to encourage the local community and business to sponsor raised beds throughout the borough, this all helps to further the community spirit and all participants are encouraged to enter the Best Flower bed or Street Planter in the Annual competition.
