Horse and Steam Trams
1878
Establishment of North London Tramways Co.
1881
Opening of horse tramway from Stamford Hill to Ponders End. Depot at Tramway Avenue.
1885
Opening of extension along Seven Sisters Road to Finsbury Park.
1887
Opening of branch along Green Lanes from Manor House to Wood Green. Conversion to steam trams.
1891
Bankruptcy of North London Tramways Co. Routes taken over by North Metropolitan Tramways Co. Reversion to horse trams.
Electric Trams
1901
Establishment of Metropolitan Electric Tramways Ltd. which took over the North Metropolitan Tramways Co.
1904
Opening of electric tramway from Finsbury Park to Wood Green (via Green Lanes) and Tottenham (via Seven Sisters Road and High Road).
1905
Extension from Tottenham to Edmonton (Tramway Avenue).
1906
Extension from Tramway Avenue to Freezywater (via Hertford Road).
Extension from Wood Green to Bounds Green.
1907
Extension from Bounds Green to New Southgate (Station Road).
Extension from Wood Green to Winchmore Hill (Green Dragon).
1908
Extension from Freezywater to Waltham Cross.
1909
Extension from New Southgate to North Finchley.
Extension from Winchmore Hill to Enfield Town (via Ridge Avenue and Village Road).
1911
Extension from Ponders End to Enfield Town (via Southbury Road).
1912
Through services over the L.C.C. network via Manor House.
1920
Through services over the L.C.C. network via Stamford Hill.
Trolleybuses
1933
formation of the London Passenger Transport Board to take over all bus and tram services and underground railways in London.
1934
Decision to replace trams with trolleybuses.
1938
All tram routes in Edmonton and Enfield converted for trolleybus operation (except for the Southbury Road route which was taken over by motor buses).
1961
All trolleybus routes in Enfield and Edmonton taken over by motor buses. Removal of overhead wires.
