This list includes only the main groups of records. In addition, the department holds a substantial number of deeds and a considerable collection of school records. There are other records in our custody which have yet to be properly listed and indexed. Other material (mainly recent) remains in the custody of the Chief Executive.
Auctioneers' Catalogues
The department has a collection of some three hundred local auctioneers' and estate agents' catalogues, the earliest dating from 1771.
Catalogues and Indexes
The main collection is arranged by the Universal Decimal Classification. There is an author catalogue, classified catalogue and a supplementary card index of local people, places and topics. The personal name index contains approximately 14,000 entries. We have prepared a number of other indexes, eg to Edmonton rate books, the 1871 census enumerators' schedules, civilian war dead of the Second World War, military dead of the First World War, the enclosure awards for Edmonton and Enfield, local wills and probate inventories. We have a street guide to census enumerators' schedules 1841 - 1881
