Management of special collections (often of old or rare books or archives) which may be available on request from library users but are not generally kept on public display.
The Library Service maintains two collections of reserve books: fiction and non-fiction. These books have been removed from the open library public shelves due to the low volume of issues and to make way for new stock. When books are withdrawn those that are considered important and/or likely to be requested in the future by library users are transferred to either the Fiction Reserve at Ordnance Road Library
or the Non-Fiction Reserve at Ridge Avenue Library
These books are retained on the Library Catalogue and marked being in reserve stock.
For a small charge these books can be reserved at any library or via our website. Alternatively customers may visit either Ordnance Road Library or Ridge Avenue Library and request the item from the staff, for which there is no charge, unless the item is on loan, in which case a reservation will have to be placed and the requisite fee tendered. All store items may either be consulted for reference purposes, or borrowed in the normal way.
Customers wishing to browse the store collections may do so by appointment only.
Eligibility
All Enfield Library users for consultation; all Enfield Library members for borrowing books. All visitors (by arrangement) to the store age 15 years or under must be accompanied by an adult.
Required Customer Information
A current Enfield library membership card to borrow items. No ID is required in order to consult for reference purposes.
Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
If you are visiting in person – items can usually be located within a matter of minutes – though you may experience delays at lunch times, during staff shortages or peak times. If you reserve a store item at another library it will normally be delivered within three working days. If you request an item that is currently on loan you are likely to experience a delay of three to four weeks.
