Roll on Reading
Roll on Reading is a special reading programme which has been devised to help children improve their literacy skills by encouraging the reading habit and promoting the appreciation of literature. The project aims to help Bangladeshi, Turkish, Refugee and African/Caribbean children become good and confident readers.
Library appreciation sessions include learning about the library building, how to join, storytelling and craft sessions. The project is targeted towards children in the 3-10 age range from Bangladeshi, African/Caribbean, Turkish and Refugee communities in Enfield. These groups were identified for priority because resources were limited.
The project aims to attract more children into the library and encourage them to become regular readers, who read much more and use a wide variety of books. Parents will find out more about the library service and will be in a better position to make suggestions for improvements.
Comments from schools, involved in the project, show that Roll on Reading has encouraged children "to enter the world of books and reading" and helped them to "have a very positive attitude to books and libraries".
