Safety - syringes - disposal

The local council will arrange for the removal and disposal of needles, syringes and other drug related items that are discarded in the environment and which may pose a risk to public safety.

Our street cleansing service operates 24 hours a day Monday to Friday and 6am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday (weekend working is only in town centres etc).

The street cleansing service is equipped to deal with discarded syringes and these will be removed, stored in secure containers before disposal as clinical waste. Residents are advised not to remove syringes themselves but to report these as soon as possible, with specific details of location to the Customer Contact Centre.
