Licences - lotteries

The Licensing Unit receive and administer Lottery registration applications, under the Section 5 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976, for societies selling lottery tickets or chances.

The service receives and administers Lottery Registration applications and fees in addition to a range of other licences, permits and registrations.

The Licensing Team operates during normal office hours and are available to take telephone calls, respond to e-mails and see applicants in reception from 09.00 to 17.00hrs to offer help and advice.

The Licensing Team consult the Electoral Register to confirm the applicant lives at the address stated and checks the authenticity of the applicant to represent the society.

Complaints or queries about a lottery or society can be made by eForm, telephone, e-mail, post or in person at the Civic Offices. All complaints are dealt with in accordance with the Councils Complaint Procedure.

The service also receives and administers Lottery Returns of the accounts for each lottery or chance.

Eligibility
The applicant must be a representative of a society and promoter of the society lottery.

Required Customer Information
Applicants must state whether they know if a person has been convicted of an offence committed in connection with a lottery promoted or proposed to be promoted on behalf of the society.

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
Registrations are determined within 14 days where no objections are received or 1 month where objections are received and application is heard by the Licensing Sub-Committee
