Licences - Theatres

Licensing – Alcohol, Entertainment and Provision of Late Night Refreshment

The Licensing Team receive and administer Personal and Premises Licence applications under the Licensing Act 2003 for around 2,500 people and 700 premises. Conditions may be attached to Premises Licences and Enforcement Officers check they are complied with, taking enforcement action where contraventions are found.

The service administers and enforces Personal and Premises Licences, in addition to a range of other licences, permits and registrations. The Licensing Team operates during normal Office Hours, although Enforcement Officers routinely work outside office hours to check for compliance on licence times, conditions etc.

We also work with a range of other ‘Responsible Authorities’, including the Police and Fire authorities, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Planning and Child Protection Services.

Licence applicants can contact us by telephone or email, and information can be found on the Council’s website or personal appointments can be pre-arranged to offer help and advice. Any application must be made by post or personal appointment only, as a payment and other enclosures must be submitted with the form(s). Application forms can be found on the Council’s website under ‘L’ for Licensing or requested by telephone or email.

Complaints about licensed premises can be made by eForm, telephone, email, post or in person at the Civic Offices. If problems persist with an alcohol-licensed premise a ‘Responsible Authority’ or member of the public living or working in the vicinity of the premises can ask for a ‘Review’ of the licence at any time, where we can then add or alter conditions, remove a licensable activity, suspend the licence for up to 3 months or even revoke it altogether.
