When a pupil is excluded from school it can be difficult for parents to know where to get information and advice about the exclusion process. The Headteacher of a school maintained by a Local Authority can take a decision to exclude a pupil, including pupils above or below compulsory school age, for a fixed period of days or permanently. The Headteacher may take this action:
When a school decides to exclude a child, they will inform the child’s parent/carer and explain the reasons for the exclusion. The Local Authority has produced leaflets that provide further information about exclusions. Eligibility
