Playsupply – Qualification Guideline for Early Years and Childcare

OfSTED Requirements

Nursery and Pre-school Managers / Supervisors
Must have at least a Level 3 qualification appropriate to the post, plus 2 years working knowledge in a childcare setting.

Nursery and Pre-school Assistants
Must have a Level 2 Childcare qualification.

50% of all staff in settings need to be appropriately qualified.

Below is a list of appropriate qualifications for both posts that I have taken from the QCA website. You can obtain a comprehensive list of qualifications from the QCA website – www.qca.org.uk

Nursery and Pre-school Manager / Supervisor
(Minimum of a Level 3 Qualification required)

• BTEC Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)
• CACHE Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB)
• NVQ 3 in Childcare and Education
• Montessori National Certificate Level 3
• Pre school Learning Alliance / CACHE Diploma in Preschool practice (DPP). If you qualified before 1999 the qualification is out of date and people will be required to undertake a APEL top up course)

Nursery and Pre school Assistant (Level 2 qualification required)

• BTEC First in Early Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)
• CACHE Certificate in Childcare and Education
• NVQ 2 in Childcare and Education
• NNEB Preliminary Diploma in Nursery Nursing
• NCFE Certificate in Playgroup Practice

Pre school Learning Alliance / CACHE Certificate in Pre School Practice
