Death – Bereavement – Advice and Support

To provide advice and guidance to the recently bereaved, next of kin or informant.

The staff at the Register Office are able to offer advice as to where to obtain help to the relatives of the deceased. The booklet D49 ‘What to do after a death’ is easy to use and a good reference guide. You can get a copy from the Register Office or www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/d49

Eligibility
• Relative of deceased;
• A person arranging the funeral (i.e. instructing the Funeral Director.)

Required Customer Information
• No specific documents needed

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
Informants have 5 days in which to register a death. However, the Registration Service aims to offer the ability to register a death on the day a request is made.
