Birth - stillbirths - registering | |
Every still-birth in England or Wales must be registered in the district in which it takes place, normally within 42 days. Following registration a certificate will be issued. A stillborn child can be registered at Gentleman’s Row on a walk-in basis if the stillbirth occurred in the Enfield district. No appointment is necessary. Waiting times to see a registrar vary from day to day and it would help us if either of the parents notified us that they are intending to come down to Gentleman’s Row so that we can ensure a Registrar is available to see them upon their arrival. The informant must give the Registrar the medical certificate of stillbirth supplied by the midwife or by the hospital where the stillbirth occurred. The certificate must be duly completed in full before the registration can take place and the doctor or midwife’s signature and qualification must be clearly visible on the certificate. As a stillbirth is a very delicate area and can cause extreme distress to the parents, all enquires should be passed to the Register Office for further information on how to register. Eligibility
