Residential care for older people | |
If living in your own home becomes too difficult for you, or if the person who normally cares for you is unable to do so, you may decide that moving into a care home would be best for you. You may be considering moving into a care home permanently, or you may just need short term or respite care whilst the person who normally looks after you has a break. Intermediate or Rehabilitation care is available if you are recovering from illness or surgery following a stay in hospital. Short term (transitional) care is also provided if you need permanent residential care, but are waiting for a vacancy in the home you have chosen. Care homes provide different levels of care, depending on your needs: Residential care is for people who need help with personal care, such as washing, dressing and using the toilet.
Care home staff are there to help you day and night, all your meals are provided, and you will have other people for company. All care homes must be registered and inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection. If your needs assessment shows that you are eligible for Council Social Care Services and that residential care is required, your social worker will help you to find the best home for you. Eligibility
If your Needs Assessment shows that you are eligible for Council Social Care services, we will carry out a Financial Assessment to determine how much you may need to pay for your placement.
