Disabled people - parking bays | |
Traffic EngineeringDevelopment and implementation of policies relating to the supply of parking places for people with disabilities. Many disabled people living and working in the Borough rely on the private car as a main mode of transport. The ease with which they can reach their intended destination is largely dependent upon the ability to park close to that destination. The availability of conveniently located designated disabled parking at key destinations is therefore essential. Parking pressure in some residential roads is high, largely due to an increase in car ownership. This in turn causes parking difficulties for blue badge holders who are unable to park close to their homes. The Council will consider applications for disabled bays in residential roads from blue badge holders who satisfy certain qualification criteria. This service is provided free of charge to the applicant. The Council receives a high demand for this service and the qualification criteria have been introduced to ensure that only the most needy are considered. Eligibility
• Demonstrate a genuine need for the bay requested.
