The Lifelong and Community Learning Service provides learning and development opportunities for adults, young people and children. The services include adult education, family learning and study support including out of school hours activities. The services are delivered in partnership with schools, local colleges and community organisations at locations across the borough. The adult education and family learning services target people who are disadvantaged and have few or no qualifications, those wanting to return to learning or want to learn for their personal development. Courses include ICT, ESOL, Personal Finance, Citizenship, Childminding, Study Skills, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Woodwork and Carpentry Care. The family learning programme aims to raise parents’ and carers’ awareness of how children learn to enable them to better support their children’s learning. It offers opportunities for parents to further develop their skills, understanding, and promotes access to further learning. The courses include family literacy, family numeracy, parenting, Early Start, Play and Language and parents can be accessed via the schools attended by their children. Study Support provides a range of support for school children, much of it taking place in out of school hours. Activities include Super Learning Days, Summer Challenges/Schools and Homework Clubs. The services are accessed via participating schools.
