Provision of residential accommodation for children aged 11 to 18 years who cannot live with their natural families either as emergency placement or to contribute to the assessment of need.
The Young Peoples Resource Centre provides accommodation for up to six young people of secondary school age of both genders. It will be unusual for young people at the younger end of this age range to be placed unless there are specific reasons notified at the point of referral. The centre places the child at the centre of its activities and provides a needs-led service based on holistic continuous assessment.
Within the constraints of residential care, the centre provides a ‘home-like’ environment, to ensure the personal and emotional safety of both the individual and the group of residents.
The Unit endeavours to work in partnership with the young person, their parents or those with parental responsibility, social workers and colleagues from other agencies whose services are required to promote the best interests of the young person.
Referrals are accepted solely from social workers that have undertaken an initial assessment of need.
