Children and young people - HIV / AIDS - advice and support

Children’s Social Services and a number of voluntary organisations work with families where a child is HIV positive, to deal with any immediate problems and to help the family plan for the long term care of children.

We aim to assist families and children to lead as near normal a life as possible

An assessment of the child and their circumstances will usually be undertaken and the information from this will be used to a plan of action in conjunction with the members of the family who have responsibility for the child

Eligibility
A child suffering from HIV is likely to be considered a s a ‘Child in Need’ and therefore the child and their carers may well need support from certain services

Required Customer Information
It is always helpful if families can provide recent medical reports/ information to assist staff in planning services for the child.

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
Following referral an Initial Assessment will usually be completed within seven working days.
