The Carers Register

Enfield Council has set up a Carers Register so we can plan services for carers more effectively. By doing this we will eventually know how many carers there are in Enfield and we can ensure that carers needs are considered when planning and delivering services.

Will the Carers Register be used for anything other than planning services?
We will use the Carers Register to supply carers with information about services we offer and carers’ events. The Register is also used to maintain information required to ensure the Carers Emergency Card Scheme runs smoothly.

Will anyone other than Enfield Council have access to the information on the Register?
Detailed information, such as names and addresses, will be available to social care staff. More general information, such as the number of carers and the type of support needs carers have identified will be used by other Council staff and the Health Authority to help plan services.

Information about carers on the Emergency Card Scheme will be supplied to the Community Alarm Service from Enfield Council if this service is required.

You have the right to see information which Enfield Council’s social care services records about you. All information held about you is protected under the Data Protection Act 1998.

How can I register?
When you, or the person you care for, are assessed or reviewed for social care services, your assessor should ask if you want to register and if you want to join our Carers Emergency Card Scheme. Alternatively, you can print off and complete the Carers Registration Form.

Do I have to register?
No, you do not have to be on the Carers Register, but by registering you will ensure that you are recorded as a carer, and will receive information on services, consultation events and training, as it becomes available.

What if I register as a carer and then stop being a carer?
If you stop caring then please tell us so that we can take your name off the Register, and if you carry an emergency card this will be cancelled as soon as you notify us of your change in circumstances.
